A fire has damaged the largest factory of Scanfil's acquisition target MB, in Italy

Translation: Original published in Finnish on 10/20/2025 at 07:49 am EEST

The factory, which was affected by the fire, belongs to the Italian MB, which Scanfil has agreed to acquire. The deal is expected to be confirmed during Q4. The potential effects of the fire on the acquisition or MB's production capacity are difficult to assess, given the limited current information.

The factory affected by the fire belongs to MB, which Scanfil has agreed to acquire

Scanfil announced on Saturday that a fire occurred on Friday night at MB Electronica's Cortona factory in Italy, which started in and primarily affected the warehouse wing of Cortona's second factory. No one was injured in the fire. MB's personnel are currently investigating the extent of the damage. Scanfil will publish further information later.

Scanfil announced the acquisition of MB Elettronica in Italy on July 13, 2025. The acquisition process is still ongoing and is expected to be confirmed during Q4.

The potential effects of the fire on the acquisition, which is in its final stages, and on MB's near-term production capacity are still difficult to assess

In our view, the Cortona plant is clearly the largest of MB's four plants in Italy. In our estimates, we have expected the MB acquisition to be completed as announced during Q4, once the companies have received regulatory approvals for the transaction. Our original comment on the transaction can be found here.

According to local media, at least the warehouse wing has suffered damage in the fire, but the possible effects of the fire on the acquisition, which is in its final stages, and especially its schedule, as well as on MB's production capacity in the near future, are difficult to assess in light of the limited current information. If necessary, we will update our assessment of the acquisition schedule and production impacts in our company report, which will be completed after Scanfil's Q3 results are published this Friday.
