The product range includes lures as well as related gear such as rods, reels, hooks, and fishing knives. Even at the risk of this starting to look like spamming, here is one more post regarding Sufix. In the post above, the search data related to Sufix looks strong for 2024. When taking a closer look at the search data for the last 90 days, the searches in April stand out strongly, and in the popular and rising searches, the Sufix 832 product line is particularly highlighted.   I searched for the most popular Sufix product from Academy and Bass Pro Shops’ websites. At Bass Pro: https://www.basspro.com/p/sufix-832-advanced-superline-braid-fishing-line-300-yard-spool Below is a listing of stock levels by color for the product. Additionally, for the most popular Low-Vis green color in the 20 lbs strength, I checked availability in brick-and-mortar stores. In a sample of 28/30 stores, the product was either “in stock” or “limited stock.” The stores were from across the US: Minnesota, North Carolina, South Carolina, Houston, California, and New York. Retail price is 34 USD; the value is estimated at a Rapala selling price of 20 USD.  At Academy, the online store favorite: Sufix 832 Advanced Superline 300 yards Braided Fishing Line | Academy There, the product is only available in the Lo-Vis green color; it was available online in 5/7 strengths at 999+ units, and 860 units for the 65-80 lbs strength, meaning a minimum value of about 118 thousand USD. Additionally, I took Houston stores as a sample for Academy, as the chain has a strong presence there. 15 lbs was “in stock” in 30/31 stores and 80 lbs in 21/30 stores. In Rapala’s own online store: 832 Advanced Superline® | Sufix I took the two most popular sizes: the 150-yard line and the 300-yard line. Below is the availability status of Rapala’s US online store. The maximum amount that can be added to the shopping cart is 10,000 units, so all those 10,000 balances are some figure greater than 10,000, valued at that maximum amount. The balance is always rounded down to the nearest thousand that is still available, i.e., all balances below 1000 are 0.   The retail price of the inventory for these two sizes alone is a minimum of 2.4 million USD. It is also positive that stock levels are heavily concentrated in the most popular colors and sizes. Their availability is still good, even though popularity has also grown according to search data. In my opinion, several signals are pointing in a positive direction: the general popularity of braided line has increased, Sufix’s own search data is strong, retailers still have deep stocks of Sufix and they have been heavily stocked in brick-and-mortar stores for the season, and Rapala’s own availability is still good with preparations made for continuous demand for the most popular products.

This year, Rapala’s visibility on Amazon seems to have improved. Rapala is classified on the site with a “top brand” rating. Additionally, over the last 3 months, more than 50,000 orders containing Rapala products have moved through Amazon. According to Amazon’s data, Rapala’s orders have also had lower-than-average return rates.  Images filtered by the most popular products.  When sorting by the highest-selling items, the products also have fairly high unit prices by Rapala’s standards → when popularity is measured in order volumes, this is a good sign. Also, the new Claptail lure is the best-selling new topwater lure on Amazon.  Below is some data for Sufix and Storm; I did not find the Top Brand mention in connection with VMC or 13 Fishing products. Reuters reports that the first IEEPA tariff refunds would be paid out on May 11. From the news: Eaton, who is overseeing the refund process, said about 3% of IEEPA entries have been liquidated through CAPE ​and are in the refund stage, which includes ​issuance of payments by the U.S. Treasury. About 21% of entries ​subject to the tariffs under the International Emergency Economic ​Powers Act (IEEPA) have been accepted for removal of ⁠duties through a new process known as CAPE, ​or Consolidated Administration and Processing of Entries, Judge Richard Eaton ​said in the order. Most of the €4.3M increase in inventory resulted from paid duties being capitalized into inventory. Production in Estonia, Indonesia, Taiwan, and France accounts for the majority of production, and IEEPA duties from these countries should, in principle, be refundable. Aluminum tariffs, which apply to items like reels, are not. It is estimated that 60-70% of the inventory increase is from duties, and we deduct 20% because not all duties are IEEPA duties. This gives a range of €2M - €2.4M. This only includes products capitalized in inventory at the time of the financial statements. Additionally, IEEPA duties were still paid on exports in January-February 2026, and for example, if a product was imported to the US in June and sold before December, the paid duty is no longer reflected in the inventory value. It is estimated that inventory turns over about 3 times a year, and duties were paid from May 2025 to February 2026. Thus, out of 10 months of sales, duties for about 4 months would have been capitalized and accounted for in inventory. This means only about 40% of the duties would be visible in inventories, and the actual cost of duties would be about 2.5 times higher than the amount capitalized in inventory, i.e., around €5 - €6 million. Upon their recovery, that €2-2.4M would move from inventory to cash, and €3-3.6M would increase the previous year’s result. These figures are rather rough back-of-the-envelope estimates, but due to the low valuation and earnings levels and the tight cash situation, the ratio of refunds to market value could be relevant. It is worth remembering that through CAPE, it may well take years for everything to be refunded. Overall, it would be nice to get some visibility into this. Would it be possible to ask, for example, if a management interview is held in connection with Q1 2026, whether Rapala can comment on the situation of these refunds at some level?

Thanks, glad to hear that the posts have been found useful! I also have expectations for the Q1 report; specifically, mentions regarding demand after the quarter are of interest. In a way, it’s exciting again, because if things went really well, the guidance would likely be raised. However, it’s possible that this would only be done in connection with the report if such a situation arises. Regarding new products, the Claptail also seems well-received. In addition to being the #1 lure in its category on Amazon, Scheels and Bass Pro have taken a lot into stock this year, and Academy has taken a lot into their online store. Below is the availability for the Claptail in these online stores. Additionally, I took the “Broken bone” color as a sample: at Scheels, it’s available in 29/34 stores, and in the Bass Pro sample, 24/30 stores. At Academy in Houston, only 3/31 stores, so it might not be as widely available in brick-and-mortar stores there. The margin on this product is also likely good. The price is about double compared to a “basic lure” from Rapala.  Regarding Europe, I’m interested in what measures have been taken to cut costs and whether the contraction in net sales might possibly stop. Of course, the customs duty refunds are one potential added bonus still. It feels like due to the uncertainty, they aren’t really priced into the share price yet, which is quite logical.

Google Trends data now also shows an interesting rise in the US. Below is Rapala’s graph, filtered for the United States and 5 years. All the graphs below use this same filter.  The Top and Rising search terms related to the trend also seem to be relevant for sales.  A similar curve can also be seen with the search term “13 fishing,” for example.  The most common searches again appear to be strongly related to fishing.  Sufix is a bit more difficult; the search term shows the same effect, but the top searches also include things other than fishing-related matters, so it might not be as strong an indicator.   On the other hand, the search term for “Braided line,” for example, where Sufix has a strong market position, looks like this:   Regarding general interest, the search term “Fishing License”:  Here, the index points for March are 66 (previous year 52) and for April 77 (previous year 65). It has evidently been a warm March-April in the US, which has supported an early start to the fishing season. Based on the data, this is also reflected in general interest. Finally, part of the interest spike could be due to Jacob Wheeler winning Redcrest in mid-April, which is the Major League Fishing championship tournament—a highly followed tournament with a 300,000 USD prize for the winner. The victory came at a great time for sales, as the fishing season is starting in April and tackle boxes are being restocked. The jigs used for the win were all CrushCity.
