Yes, Martola had bought it with his own money, which I think is a positive sign, given that his ownership stake was already large. I confirmed this with DeeTee’s IR. There’s some rule that acquisitions under 20,000 euros within a calendar year don’t require notification.

TJ-Martola has bought more shares:  Or received them as compensation. I couldn’t find any announcement. Small-cap funds have been selling, as has the Church Pension Fund.

Deetee’s annual general meeting was indeed last Thursday, held at the Otaniemi campus area, specifically Dipoli. It’s probably a place that evokes memories for many engineers active in various forums; I last ventured there in the 1990s for a chess tournament. The company’s headquarters are actually at the same address, in an area closed to outsiders. Nowadays, it’s conveniently accessible by metro. Small meetings have their advantages; among other things, there was an opportunity to chat with CEO Hannu Martola even before the official part, over coffee and cake. He’s a positive person and seems to have plenty of energy, even though he’s been in the position since 2007, long before the company’s listing in 2015. Here are a few takeaways from the discussions, the CEO’s overview, and shareholders’ questions: Agility, delivery reliability, and long-standing customer relationships are at the core of competitiveness, in addition to high-tech products. When a situation or problem comes to the CEO’s attention in the morning, corrective measures are already underway in the afternoon. This means there are no intermediate layers typical of large organizations that can, at worst, slow things down. Last year’s cash flow was weak because inventory levels were kept high due to the geopolitically turbulent situation. I understood, at least, that an improvement in the situation is expected this year, and I’m not referring to geopolitics​. In any case, it sounds good, especially since the Middle East crisis came out of nowhere again. China is known for its copycat industry, but the fact is that it’s difficult for an unknown company to sell products that are quite safety-sensitive. Of course, they try their best to get even one significant customer reference, but brand recognition and long-standing customer relationships truly protect Deetee from this kind of unhealthy competition. Many customers have explicitly stated, “we want to buy from you.” The first deliveries have already been made from the Delhi factory in India; apparently, India is also an easy country to operate in. Mattila was visibly excited when he talked about the X-Panel-43108 TFT detector (dimensions 43cm*108cm, which is entirely an active imaging area) launched last April, practically offering more than three times the imaging speed compared to traditional solutions. This provides an unprecedentedly large imaging area and speed for industrial applications, aimed at the automotive, aerospace, and defense industries. If I remember correctly, one has already been delivered to an Italian car manufacturer. Another significant launch last year was X-Cargo, developed for fast and high-energy cargo inspection, with a scanning speed of up to 70 km/h. I again grant myself the usual disclaimer for any memory errors or misunderstandings . I left the meeting with a good feeling, and if I had to guess, there won’t be an earnings warning for the first quarter. Of course, the company itself won’t have the figures until early April, so for heaven’s sake, don’t make purchasing decisions based on my hunches​.

That certainly weighs in, that’s clear. But if you look generally at these Finnish small- and mid-caps, their YTD development has been quite similar..

I guess DeeTie (DeeTee) is pressured by the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the resulting oil crisis in Asia. That’s where it hits hardest and dulls the economy. This then affects all companies operating in the region, even if there’s no direct connection to oil.  This is also true. Of course, it also falls along with the others.

DeeTee will pay a dividend tomorrow, and the stock has just been sliding  It’s quite strange that we’ve fallen back to the same level as last year’s lows, even though the interim report and outlook were promising. Apparently, redemptions from small funds are affecting this stock too, leading to sales regardless of price. It’s quite an absurd situation  A similar case for several Finnish small and mid-cap companies.
