Coegin Pharma reports positive NPP-4 safety results - advancing a potential breakthrough in sunless tanning

COEGINPress release2026-10-15 14:30

Coegin Pharma AB ("Coegin" or the "Company") today announces positive results from its comprehensive NPP-4 safety program, including preclinical safety evaluations and clinical cosmetic Patch and Human Repeat Insult Patch Testing (HRIPT). The results mark an important milestone for NPP-4, the Company's next-generation peptide innovation with the potential to transform the global sunless tanning industry.

NPP-4 represents a fundamentally new approach to sunless tanning. Unlike conventional self-tanning products that chemically colour the skin's surface, NPP-4 is a novel peptide involved in the skin's natural pigmentation processes. The technology is being developed to support a naturally darker and more even-looking skin tone without UV exposure.

The global sunless tanning market represents a substantial commercial opportunity, driven by growing demand for safer alternatives to UV tanning and science-based beauty innovations. Coegin believes NPP-4 has the potential to challenge conventional tanning technologies and establish an entirely new premium product category.

The positive safety results, covering both preclinical assessments and established clinical skin compatibility studies, provide important support for continued product development and future commercialization.

A key competitive advantage is Coegin's patented peptide formulation and delivery technology. The proprietary gel serum platform is designed to maintain peptide stability and facilitate effective delivery into the skin, addressing two major challenges in peptide-based cosmetics. NPP-4 has already been successfully incorporated into this platform, which is currently used commercially for Follicopeptide®.

Importantly, NPP-4 products can be manufactured at Coegin's existing production facility in Denmark using the same technology and infrastructure as Follicopeptide®. This enables cost-effective, flexible and scalable production without the need to establish a separate manufacturing platform.

"We believe NPP-4 has the potential to redefine sunless tanning. While conventional products have relied on essentially the same technology for decades, NPP-4 introduces a completely different approach based on the skin's natural pigmentation signalling," says Jens Eriksson, CEO of Coegin Pharma.

"What makes this opportunity particularly compelling is the combination of our innovative peptide and patented delivery technology. We have already established the formulation and manufacturing platform through Follicopeptide, giving us a significant advantage as we advance NPP-4. With these positive safety results, we have reached another important milestone towards unlocking a potentially substantial new market for Coegin."

NPP-4 originates from research at the University of Bradford and Lund University, with continued scientific involvement from Professor Desmond J. Tobin and Professor Anna Hultgårdh. Earlier studies have demonstrated the intended pigmentation-related effects, providing initial concept validation.

Coegin sees significant commercial opportunities across premium face and body products, sunless tanning and future multifunctional skincare, including potential combinations with SPF (sun protection factor) technologies.

The Company will now continue product development and the remaining activities required ahead of future commercialization, building on its established peptide technology and manufacturing platform.
