Evli is an asset management company. The group offers a range of financial services related to asset management and loan financing. Its customers include both private savers and larger corporate customers, with the largest activity in asset management. In addition to its core business, it also offers various ancillary services within fund operations. Evli has its headquarters in Helsinki.

Sauli has published a new company report on Evli after Q4.  Evli’s Q4 report was excellent in all respects, crowning the company’s record-breaking year. Following the excellent report, we have made minor positive revisions to our forecasts, and we expect brisk earnings growth from the company in the coming years. However, the stock’s valuation has tightened significantly following the share price rally, and the risk/reward ratio has shifted to an insufficient level in our assessment. We are revising our target price to EUR 26.0 (prev. EUR 24.0), but lowering our recommendation to Reduce (prev. Accumulate). Quoted from the report: Only minor refinements to forecasts We have made only minor upward adjustments to our forecasts. We expect the 2026 result to remain flat, as the normalization of performance fees from the 2025 record level offsets strong growth elsewhere. However, we note that EPS will grow, as the minority interest share of earnings will also decrease significantly along with the decline in performance fees. In 2027, operating profit will also return to growth, and we remain very positive about Evli’s long-term outlook. Truly content worth watching. Using this interview with Maunu as a segue: I’ve recently been wondering how little CEOs of Finnish boutique-style asset managers (or even bank wealth management divisions) ultimately appear in public, especially in this so-called “new investor media,” like podcasts. Their visibility in general economic discussion is also quite limited, especially compared to bank directors or CEOs of large listed companies. In the US, asset management CEOs are almost without exception on stage themselves, providing insights into global shifts from an investment market perspective nearly every week. This feels somewhat strange because asset management is exactly the kind of industry where trust, thinking, and vision are at the core of the entire business. Many boutique firms have a genuinely interesting story, investment philosophy, market outlook, and a leader with a clear, distinct voice, but the content often stays confined to client meetings and webinars—and even there, it’s often presented by experts rather than the leadership, and not even in a very consistent manner. One could imagine that right now would be a prime opportunity for massive thought leadership. Baby boomers are transferring their wealth to the next generations, and this new generation of owners looks for wealth management in a very different way than before: transparency, intelligibility, vision, digitalization, and above all, the feeling that someone is actually thinking about the markets on their behalf rather than just selling a product. In this situation, a CEO of Evli, eQ, or another similar boutique asset manager who dares to step forward, take a stand, and talk about the market, investing, and even the industry’s pain points openly and with their own voice, could build a massive top-of-mind position for their firm. Personally, if I were in that role, I’d be scrambling to appear on various podcasts and would strive to earn visibility for the firm through shared insight. I can’t say to what extent the industry’s regulatory environment restrains this and to what extent the industry is just cautious and conservative, but it still feels like many are missing out on the opportunity. But indeed, it’s great that interviews like these are being produced and broadcast. It seems clear that in the era of AI, the need for authentic, native investor information is becoming even more pronounced. In this regard, players like Inderes have an increasingly important role, in my opinion—and for example, this interview with Maunu is exactly the kind of value-creating content needed. Over the past year, I’ve mapped out and met with over a dozen industry players through my work. One could write at length about the industry, as well as the differentiation of players and its challenges from a client’s perspective. But perhaps more on that topic another time.

The company’s communication is on a whole different level when it’s heard spoken instead of just reading slides  Even though bankers are notoriously stingy, it would be nice to get the company management in front of the camera in the future as well, maybe once a year or so.

Time to brew the Evli coffee.  Good job Sauli, glad Maunu is joining for a chat.  Expectations for 2026 are positive OUTLOOK FOR 2026 The past year was turbulent in the investment markets, and the operating environment is expected to remain uncertain and difficult to predict also in 2026. The expansion of geopolitical risks and concerns about the sustainability of economic growth are increasing uncertainty in the markets. If investor confidence weakens and market values decline, it will have a negative impact on Evli’s fee income and the return on its own investment portfolio. Despite the challenging operating environment, Evli has succeeded in strengthening its market position. Growth has been supported by a broad product range and customer base. With a strong market position and positive growth outlook, we estimate the operating profit to be clearly positive.

Indeed, it was a really strong result! Revenue beat estimates significantly (+16%). It is important to note that this came mostly from fund management fees, not performance fees. I do suspect there are some retroactive fees involved, and/or a carry-over from Q3 (Q3 fees were very soft in funds). Performance fees and brokerage were also a notch better than expected. Expenses grew slower than revenue as expected, and operating profit beat estimates by 33%. Note: the increase in expenses is explained by the fact that the better-than-expected Q4 result has retrospectively increased the bonus accrual for the entire year. Operating profit also includes a EUR 1.6 million negative result share from an associate. This likely relates to AllShares, but at this stage, I don’t know if it’s an accounting item or if it reflects business development. The minority interest share was unpleasantly large again, taking a chunk out of the operating profit. I assume that performance fees from certain funds flow through here (minority interests). EPS ended up being 24% above expectations, so overall, this is a very strong performance.
