Finnair Traffic Performance in January 2026
Finnair Plc Investor News 5 February 2026 at 9:00 a.m. EET
Newly added metric in the traffic performance release, unit revenue, improved supported by an increase in passenger load factor
In January, Finnair carried 912,300 passengers, which was 3.8% more than in January 2025. Passenger numbers grew significantly in North Atlantic traffic, clearly in Asian and European traffic and slightly also in Domestic traffic. In Middle Eastern traffic, the number of passengers declined.
Overall capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK), also increased by 3.8%. In the comparison period, capacity was limited by industrial action. In January 2026, capacity grew significantly in North Atlantic traffic, clearly in Asian and Domestic traffic and slightly also in European traffic. In addition to the end of the industrial action, the capacity increase was primarily driven by added frequencies to Dallas, Los Angeles and Miami, Hong Kong and Seoul, as well as Lapland. In Middle Eastern traffic, ASKs decreased due to the end of cooperation with Qatar Airways on flights between Stockholm, Copenhagen and Doha on 15 February 2025. Including wet lease outs, overall capacity increased by 3.6%.
Finnair's traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), increased by 4.6%. RPKs saw growth across traffic areas, except for Middle Eastern traffic.
Passenger load factor (PLF) improved by 0.6% points to 74.1%. PLF improved in European traffic but declined in the other traffic areas.
The traffic performance release will from now on include revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK), which in January increased by 0.9%, supported by an improved passenger load factor.
Total cargo tonnes increased by 7.5%. Revenue cargo tonne kilometres increased by 8.9%.
In January, 63.8% of all Finnair flights arrived on schedule compared to 68.6% in the comparison period. On-time performance was negatively affected by exceptionally difficult weather conditions.
Traffic statistics for February 2026 will be published on Thursday 5 March 2026.

- Passenger load factor (PLF): Share of revenue passenger kilometres of available seat kilometres
- Available tonne kilometres: Number of tonnes of capacity for carriage of passengers, cargo and mail × great circle distance in kilometres
- Revenue tonne kilometres (RTK): Total revenue load consisting of passengers, cargo and mail × great circle distance in kilometres
- Revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK): Revenue / available seat kilometres
The reported distance-based traffic figures do not consider longer routings caused by airspace closures but are based on the great-circle distance in accordance with the industry practice.
