Press release

First patients treated with RayCare at Raigmore Hospital

Raysearch Laboratories

RaySearch Laboratories AB (publ) announces an important clinical achievement at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, Scotland, where the first patients have been treated using RaySearch’s oncology information system RayCare®* together with the widely used Varian TrueBeam®** linear accelerator. The first treatments were successfully delivered in late April and early May 2026.

Raigmore Hospital is the northernmost radiotherapy center in the UK and treats close to 1,000 patients per year. The center has two TrueBeam linear accelerators and has been using RayStation® as treatment planning system clinically since 2016. RayCare has been selected as its oncology information system to replace Varian ARIA. Key factors in the decision included strong workflow support, seamless integration with RayStation, advanced automation through scripting and a desire to deliver online adaptive treatment with a conventional linac.

The clinic has now completed the implementation and is running RayCare in full clinical production for treatment delivery on both machines, becoming the first clinical user of RayCare in the UK. This marks a further step in the clinic’s commitment to efficient, well-coordinated workflows across the entire patient pathway. By combining streamlined user workflows, a direct interface with the Varian TrueBeam system, and a high degree of automation, RayCare enables a more efficient and scalable approach to daily clinical operations. With the integration of RayCare, Raigmore Hospital also gains future online adaptive treatment capabilities, enabling each treatment session to be tailored to the patient’s current anatomy.

“As a busy cancer center, treating our first patients with RayCare connected to our TrueBeam machines is an important step forward,” comments Steven Colligan, Head of Radiotherapy Physics, Raigmore Hospital. “The first treatments went smoothly, and we are already seeing how the improved workflow support and automation strengthen consistency, quality and documentation across the clinic.”

Johan Löf, founder and CEO of RaySearch, comments: “Seeing Raigmore Hospital treat its first patients with RayCare is an important clinical milestone and demonstrates how integrated and adaptive workflows can be implemented efficiently in routine clinical practice, helping more clinics deliver advanced, personalized radiotherapy.”
