The DC fast charging manufacturer Kempower is supplying fast chargers to French charge point operator Greenspot for deployment across its network at several types of sites including large retail stores and supermarkets. The first deployment covers 30 stations throughout France by the end of 2027, all built on the same standardized Kempower DC fact charging architecture, designed for fast roll-out and efficient charging while drivers do their shopping.
Each of the Kempower sites uses an identical configuration, replicated across the network: a 200 kW Kempower Power Unit paired with two dual Satellites, providing four charging points. Designed for retailers with medium-sized car parks, the configuration connects to the grid under France’s medium-power “tarif jaune” supply, with no need for a transformer substation.
The result is faster commissioning of sites, lower investment and fast charging for drivers while they shop. For retailers, it is expected that the service will attract new customers and increase footfall.
Five sites are already in operation: Bricomarché Montgiscard, Intermarché Super Lanton, Aldi Benesse-Maremne, Aldi Izon and Aldi Saint-Ciers-sur-Gironde. The next stations are already scheduled, including Aldi in Cadaujac, Cabestany and Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, Franprix in Choisy-le-Roi, Intermarché in Lambesc, Anduze, Saint-Estève and Monein, and Cultura in Cabriès.
For all of these sites, Greenspot is deploying its third-party investment model: the company finances, installs and operates the charging infrastructure, with no investment required from the retailers. This turnkey solution allows them to expand their services, make their car parks more attractive and draw in new customers.
Kempower charging system is characterized by distributed, dynamic architecture: a central Power Unit feeds several charging points and allocates power in real time according to the needs of each connected vehicle. The technology optimizes charging times, reduces waiting and allows the operator to expand each site in stages, adding power or Kempower Satellites as demand grows, without heavy upfront investment or grid connection upgrades.
Through the partnership, Kempower is supporting Greenspot with the supply of the hardware across its entire network. Greenspot operates the stations as part of a growing network, offering consistent services from one site to the next, all-over France.
Cédric Moret, Country Manager France at Kempower, said: “Retail stores are ideal places for fast charging: people stop there often, and for just the right amount of time. Together with Greenspot, we have defined a configuration that is simple, replicable and quick to deploy, and that connects under the ‘tarif jaune’ without a transformer substation.
Nicolas Salmon, Technical Director at Greenspot, added: “The partnership with Kempower fits squarely within our deployment strategy. We chose a modular, scalable solution that can adapt to the needs of each site and support its development over time. Beyond the technology, working with a European company is a natural choice, in line with our aim of relying on strong partners close to home.”
