InCoax Networks AB: InCoax reaches first 100 connected customers in Finnish municipal broadband deployment

InCoax Networks

InCoax Networks AB (publ) announces that the first 100 customers have now been connected in Sodankylä, Finland, using InCoax's Fiber Access Extension technology. The deployment is carried out by Tähtikuitu Oy Sodankylä and forms part of a broadband modernization project covering approximately 750 apartments, of which around 400 are expected to be served using InCoax Fiber Access Extension.

The project replaces legacy VDSL infrastructure with symmetrical gigabit broadband over existing in-building coaxial networks. This enables Tähtikuitu to deliver high-capacity broadband without extensive new cabling inside the properties, reducing installation complexity, shortening deployment time and limiting disruption for property owners and residents.

Tähtikuitu is a local fiber operator owned by the municipality of Sodankylä and has built a fiber network serving the municipality. The cooperation with InCoax enables Tähtikuitu to extend the reach of its fiber network efficiently into apartment buildings where replacing all in-building wiring with new fiber would be more time-consuming and costly.

InCoax's Fiber Access Extension technology enables operators to deliver fiber-grade broadband performance over existing coaxial networks. The solution is particularly relevant in buildings where the final in-building connection is a bottleneck for service activation, allowing operators to accelerate deployment while improving the end-user broadband experience.

"The first 100 connected customers in Sodankylä represent an important proof point for InCoax Fiber Access Extension in a live operator deployment," says Jakob Tobieson, CEO of InCoax. "The project demonstrates that existing in-building coaxial infrastructure can remove one of the key bottlenecks in fiber deployment by addressing the final connection inside the building. This supports a scalable rollout model for operators, reducing installation complexity, shortening time to activation and limiting disruption for residents, while enabling Tähtikuitu to deliver improved broadband performance in a cost-efficient way."

The deployment also illustrates the broader role of InCoax technology in helping operators remove last-mile installation barriers. By complementing fiber networks with high-performance connectivity over existing coaxial infrastructure, operators can accelerate customer activation in buildings where new in-building cabling would otherwise add time, cost and complexity.
