NCC to construct high-voltage substation in Zealand

NCC BPress release2026-08-04 09:15

NCC has been commissioned by Energinet to construct a 400 kV air-insulated switchgear (AIS) substation at Ringsbjerg in Zealand, Denmark. The contract also includes the expansion of the substation at Bjäverskov. The order value is approximately SEK 190 million.

The project is an important step in the expansion of the Danish transmission grid and will ensure that larger volumes of renewable energy can be transported through the electricity grid as society transitions towards greater electrification. NCC will serve as the main contractor for the project, which includes earthworks and concreting, foundation, installation and construction work.

"Our expertise in complex civil engineering and infrastructure projects makes this project a perfect fit. In parallel, it aligns with NCC's strategic focus on energy, where we are supporting the development of critical infrastructure. We look forward to working closely with Energinet to implement a robust and future-proof solution," says Bjarki Finnbogason, Head of Section at NCC Infrastructure in Denmark.

The new substation at Ringsbjerg will play a central role in Zealand's future electricity infrastructure. The station will serve as a key hub in the transmission grid and can be expanded in the future as society's electrification needs grow.

"Denmark is in the midst of a historic transition. We are currently investing heavily in expanding the electricity grid so that it can support the green transition and safeguard security of supply as the use of green electricity increases - including for transport and heating. The project in central Zealand, which also includes new 400 kV cables, is an important part of this development, and we look forward to seeing the machines get to work," says Nina Høegh Jensen, Executive Vice President for Electricity Transmission at Energinet.

Work will commence after the summer, and the substation is expected to be commissioned in 2029.

The order value is approximately SEK 190 million and will be registered in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the third quarter of 2026.
