The globally leading airlaid nonwoven producer Glatfelter is now, after years of development, launching, a 100 % biobased and home-compostable airlaid material at the trade fair INDEX23 in Geneva. By utilizing OrganoClick's biobased and home-compostable binder, the OC-Biobinder, traditional fossil-based binders in the material have been replaced. The commercialization will start Q2 2023.
Glatfelter and OrganoClick have collaborated for nearly five years in the development of the new airlaid material. OrganoClick's biobased and home-compostable binder, which replaces the fossil-based binder in the traditional material, is made of raw materials from side streams in the food industry originating from wheat, corn, lemons and shrimp shells. The new airlaid material can be used for tabletop products but also for several other applications.
