OSUN: Ocean Sun receives NOK 8 million in public funding for the EROS research project

Ocean Sun
Ocean Sun has been awarded NOK 8 million in public funding for the project EROS
- Enhanced Environmental Resilience for OS FPV System, an Innovation Project for
the Industrial Sector (IPN) running from 2026 to 2029.

The project aims to strengthen the long-term performance and reliability of
Ocean Sun's floating solar technology. The work will focus on environmental
stressors such as waves, moisture, high salinity and soiling and how it impacts
the PV modules. It also includes testing and optimization of Ocean Sun's
automated cleaning system. The project is carried out in collaboration with the
Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), which will contribute research within
mechanical modelling, moisture related degradation, and soiling analysis.

The EROS project will provide Ocean Sun with improved methods for assessing new
PV module types, modelling environmental stressors, and implementing mitigation
measures in system design and operations. The results are expected to support
future product development and strengthen the competitiveness of Ocean Sun's
technology in more exposed locations. For IFE, the project contributes to
ongoing research activities in floating PV, including testing protocols,
accelerated degradation studies, and model development.

The project is a great opportunity to continue the positive collaboration with
IFE and to further research and advance the Ocean Sun's patented membrane-based
technology.

About Ocean Sun:
By combining Norwegian maritime expertise and knowledge within photovoltaics,
Ocean Sun as developed an innovation that offers a bold solution to our global
energy needs. The patented technology is based on solar modules mounted on
hydro-elastic membranes and offers cost and performance benefits not seen in any
other floating PV system today. With offices in Oslo, Singapore and Shanghai,
Ocean Sun is embarking on its vision to be the world's leading technology
provider of floating solar.
