Is it true that Iceflake has brought new energy to Cities: Skylines 2 development and the number of negative reviews has started to decrease? On the 18th, Office Evolution & City Stations was released, along with Iceflake’s second update.

Paradox certainly knows how and dares to charge for its games.  Still, I would say that per hour played, Paradox’s games are relatively affordable. If a game’s lifespan is ~10 years (assuming a player buys the game 2 years after release when bugs have been sufficiently fixed) and they play for an hour every day, the total playtime over 10 years would be, for example, 3,650 hours. Even if you bought all the DLCs and extras at full price and ended up paying like this: base game for 40 EUR on sale + 10x 30 EUR DLC + extras = 340 EUR, the experience would cost approx. 9 cents per hour.

The prices are really outrageous for a single DLC, a few 3D models, and some immersion content added via a couple of practically AI-generated text files:    For that price, you can get several smaller indie games. Maybe this isn’t such a bad investment after all, despite how much it’s being bashed online

Additionally, the 1.1 update for EU V seems to have received a good reception; see, for example, these comments below. https://www.reddit.com/r/EU5/comments/1rlwmqx/11_feels_great/ On Steam, many negative reviews acknowledge the game’s potential: the reviewers have hundreds of hours played, so it can’t be that bad.  EU V is an important showcase of skill, as it demonstrates the ability of Paradox’s own studios to create solid games that challenge their predecessors. There is a major risk that a new game fails and players stick to the old one until the community dwindles away completely. This is why the development of EU V has been promising. And the game is fully playable, unlike many previous new releases in their early stages.  I expect this game will also hit its stride in about 2-3 years. Of course, these factors alone don’t solve the core question regarding Paradox: whether the current strategy player base can still grow much further.

Iceflake Studios, which took over development responsibility for Cities: Skylines II from Colossal Order, released its first update for the game yesterday. Many small changes that likely have little financial significance on their own, but the update’s reception among players has been positive. IS seems to understand what needs fixing in the game to improve player satisfaction. A couple more similar updates, and this could provide a boost to future DLC sales and the game’s longevity.
