It’s reiterated that azacitidine-like drugs have been a cornerstone of treatment for 20 years despite their modest efficacy. The exception is a very small group with IDH-mutation specific drugs. Practically, the only curative treatment is a bone marrow transplant. They emphasize the importance of subclassifications in addition to the former high-risk/low-risk concepts. An NGS panel performed on a bone marrow sample provides a list of mutations and their severity (TP53, IDH, etc.), yielding prognostic classes that should be examined individually and used for risk stratification and prognosis with IPSS-M. The authors highlight failed studies targeting, for example, TP53 and CAR-T. New targets include: Nuclear export (the drug inhibits the function of the XPO1 protein; Selinexor has been studied in r/r MDS, among others. In 23 evaluable patients, ORR was 26%, median OS was 8.7 months. It’s a bit of a weak comparison to contrast these completed deals with Faron’s potential partnerships or acquisitions, because neither of these completed deals is affected by the end point uncertainty (OS versus CR) that has frozen Faron’s partnering efforts. Your comments give me a bit of a “why not Faron, when these others…” vibe. The most dire prognostications have certainly already left the discussion. At least I understand that a potential partner wants certainty on that end point issue first. And, at the latest after f2b (if the results are good), things will start happening. It would be crazy for BP (big pharma) to let the research continue to f3 if the prospects are favorable. Even now, a very early-stage asset was acquired.

Was this Terns phase 1 asset? How high would you estimate the probability of getting market authorization and launching on schedule?

Yes, a handsome upfront payment of 2 billion USD, and later, if clinical trials progress favorably, up to an additional 1 billion may follow. It’s worth noting that this was not a partnering agreement but an acquisition. Novartis acquired Synnovation’s subsidiary, which develops the breast cancer drug, with all its rights. Therefore, no royalties from drug sales are involved here.

Exactly, a 31% premium to the current share price. However, I don’t underestimate Bex’s (Bexy) value; there’s certainly a lot of interest, and as more research becomes available, the value will be determined by the results. As the research has progressed, offers have increased by 192% so far, as was reported.

This demonstrates that BP is not necessarily seeking “certainty” after controlled experiments or “phase 3 ready” assets, as we have heard explained. Instead, Merck genuinely wanted to acquire a compound with truly excellent results. I mentioned Ternsin earlier in this thread; you can find it using the search function. The detailed, excellent results did not go unnoticed by BP either.
