REMO powers Iberia with Kempower chargers across truck, bus and passenger car charging

Portuguese charge point operator REMO, part of the Mota-Engil group, is deploying and operating Kempower fast chargers across Spain and Portugal to support the expansion of charging infrastructure in the Iberia region. REMO’s deployments span all highway e-mobility applications, covering both public and depot-based charging for passenger cars, trucks and e-buses in a single, distributed network.

Iberia has become one of Europe's fastest-moving electrification stories. In Portugal, electrically-chargeable vehicle registrations set a record in 2025 with 90,000 new EVs on the roads, while Spain is scaling both vehicles and high-power infrastructure at pace, doubling the number of public charge points to close to 50,000. With a goal to provide charging wherever people and goods move across Iberia – including retail and hospitality sites, freight corridors and commercial depots – REMO is one of the first charging operators in Iberia to cover the three major charging segments defining today’s EV charging landscape.

Recently, REMO has deployed chargers to the likes of Luís Simões, one of Portugal's largest logistics providers, connecting its Lisbon and Oporto hubs to electrify the countries busiest freight routes as well as to Portuguese public bus operator VALPI, where charging capacity has been installed for a full fleet of 20 electric buses, and to a significant number of shopping centre and hotels across the region.

Kempower DC charging system is characterized by its distributed, dynamic charging capabilities which centre a Power Unit around a number of charging connectors and feed power to each charge point incrementally depending on real-time demands of the connected vehicle. The technology optimizes charge times, reduces waiting time and allows the operator to scale the deployment in stages as demand grows without needing large upfront investment or grid connections.

Kempower and REMO’s collaboration strengthens a partnership that began in early 2025, when REMO began rolling out Kempower's DC fast charging technology across the Iberian Peninsula. REMO – Powered by Mota-Engil – installs, operates and services the chargers, offering drivers and fleets a consistent charging experience on both sides of the Spain-Portugal border.

Guillermo Lopez Arias, Kempower’s Country Manager for Iberia, said: “Iberia is electrifying fast across every kind of vehicle at once. Working with REMO, we can bring the same distributed Kempower technology to a shopping centre, a logistics hub and a bus depot, offering a consistent experience across the board and best-in-market charging flexibility.”

Luís Castanheira, REMO’s CEO, said: “As part of Mota-Engil, our job is to build infrastructure that lasts. Kempower enables us to deploy and service charging that scales in line with demand and continues running reliably for our customers, providing them with the best possible user experience.”
