Storytel Group acquires a majority stake in the Swedish publisher Bokfabriken

Storytel

Storytel Group today announced the acquisition of a 70 percent majority stake in Bokfabriken, one of Sweden's largest general publishing houses. The current owners will retain a 30 percent stake, and Lasse Brahme will continue as CEO of Bokfabriken.

In 2023, Bokfabriken reported sales of 65.7 MSEK with an operating profit of 15.9 MSEK. Digital releases, encompassing over 500 audiobook titles, accounted for more than 70 percent of the publisher's revenues in 2023, demonstrating the company’s strong digital focus.

“Storytel has made a fantastic journey and has revolutionized the entire book industry. As a content provider, Bokfabriken has been part of that journey from the start, and it therefore feels natural to continue together on this path, now that we are becoming part of Storytel Group. Together with our fantastic authors and Storytel, we look forward to taking storytelling, its concepts, and its technical solutions to the next level”, says Lasse Brahme, CEO Bokfabriken.

Founded in 2012 by Lasse Brahme, Erik Johansson och Mattias Lundgren, Bokfabriken has become a key player in the Swedish publishing industry. The publisher has a strong presence in both print and digital formats and operates from offices in Malmö and Stockholm. Among its notable authors are Leffe Grimwalker, Anders Nilsson, David Baldacci, Anna Karolina and Olséni & Hansen.

“We are happy to welcome Bokfabriken to Storytel Group. Driven by entrepreneurship, they have established themselves as one of the leading publishers in the audio segment in Sweden and have a proven track record of publishing commercially successful content across various genres that resonates well with the Storytel audience. This acquisition marks an exciting new chapter for both companies, and we look forward to working together to bring even more fantastic stories to the world”, says Bodil Eriksson Torp, CEO Storytel Group.

With Storytel Group as the majority shareholder, Bokfabriken will maintain its distinct identity and continue to develop both new and established authors as an independent unit within Storytel Group.

The agreed purchase price will be fully paid in cash, and will be paid out of Storytel Group’s cash balance with no further financing needed.
