Kempower operates in the industrial sector. The company is a developer of charging solutions and services aimed at the automotive sector. The range mainly includes charging posts, stations, sockets, and associated electronic equipment. In addition to the main business, various after-sales services and technical support are offered. The largest operations are found in the Nordic region and parts of Europe.

I had to go try out Alpi’s gear yesterday at a new site and I can say that I’ll be sticking with Kempower in the future  Empty charging station, Tesla with a warm battery, SoC 19%, and the Alpitronic pushed a maximum of 39 kW. The average seemed to be around 30 kW… Quite a pathetic performance this time, even though these are supposedly proven to be actually good chargers. User experience was okay, I’d give the edge to Kempower here. Alpi’s “handshake” happened quickly and the ABC app worked well as usual. A minus for the lack of “ChargEye”, meaning I couldn’t scan any QR code etc. (or at least I didn’t find one) to follow the charging on my phone. I hope for equally poor performances for others visiting these chargers, so that S-Group leaves the Alpis as just a one-time experiment

Long-term customer S Group has opened a new charging station in Helsinki and has done so with Alpitronic chargers. Previously, S Group (ABC-lataus) used only Kempower chargers, but now, for one reason or another, Alpitronic has been brought into the mix. Consequently, Kempower’s “exclusivity” with Finland’s largest charging service provider came to an end.  This is likely the site at the corner of Maskuntie and Humalistonkatu.

This is exactly the point. Still, S-group is a rather insignificant customer in the big picture, especially in the future. HYC1000 is the real competitor, and Alpitronic doesn’t seem to be able to deliver large quantities of those yet. The few HYC400s installed now just give investors the opportunity to vote with their wallets and not charge with these. Likewise, feedback is an excellent tool.  One must have enough patriotism not to even slightly put a spoke in the wheels of the next KONE with one’s own actions. Greetings to the decision-makers of S-group. I will never charge a kWh from any Alpitronic device.  I wouldn’t give too much weight to these at this stage. The summer CMD and two (?) earnings days before that will tell much more about where things stand. At the CMD, Kempower can present devices that Alpitronic will have nothing to match for years – just like what happened with MCS. I’m sure new power electronics and even higher power levels will come alongside the updated strategy.

While these fuels are absolutely possible to produce in the quantities required, they will at scale represent quite a high cost per tonne of net CO2e emissions averted. They are with certainty going to be cheaper at scale than any fuel made from its combustion products using electricity. While some hydrogen will be needed to deoxygenate biofuels, so-called e-fuels are thermodynamic and hence economic nonsense, so we’d better hope we don’t need them.

Thus, Kempower’s “exclusive right” to Finland’s largest charging service provider has come to an end. This is probably a normal dual supply strategy where at least two charger suppliers are desired. This is good from a risk management perspective alone. No idea what the supplier split between Kempo vs. Alpi will be, but since Kempower’s installed base in S-ryhmä is significantly larger than Alpitronic’s, one could assume that new charging fields will primarily be made with Alpitronic’s equipment. This balances the risk. Competition here in our Nordic home is thus intensifying. It’s regrettable that Kempower’s long-term customer seems to be giving them the middle finger, even though it’s completely normal business. I myself imagined that in the land of the green bonus card, suppliers wouldn’t be heavily competed for, and Kempower would have managed to weave a sufficiently tight network around the customer during the past couple of years. However, this did not happen. As competition intensifies, the company’s financial targets seem even more distant.

We expect Kempower to deliver a strong fourth quarter in terms of earnings and revenue. We believe there is more uncertainty about the growth in order intake, as market-level investment in transport electrification appears to be leveling off after a strong period.
