Nordea is a banking company. Nordea still has a staggering number of people doing all sorts of ”paper-pushing.” By streamlining operations and cutting costs, you can still squeeze a good result out of this machine.  From an individual’s perspective, it’s a bit unfortunate, but as an investment, there is significant upside.

The weakness of Nordea’s investment features is evident in their annual reporting. Specifically, a report of capital gains/losses is needed for taxation. At least Nordnet identifies the report as the 9A form, which is easily found within their service. At Nordea, however, this specific form only arrives by mail during February. When asking investment customer service over the phone, they didn’t even understand which document I was talking about at first? After pressuring customer service further, it turned out that they cannot send the document in any way, even for a fee, but some external party??? mails these automatically! In other words, if that letter gets lost in the mail, I’ll have quite a mountain of work and calculations ahead of me for the tax return. Because of this specific letter, my company’s financial statements are delayed by 1–2 months every year.

Yes, but using Nordea’s app and online bank for investing is not up to date at all. I have investments in both Nordea and Nordnet, and tracking prices, portfolio performance, or even making a purchase isn’t very intuitive or encouraging for investing. Personally, all my investment-related tracking happens through Nordnet, and only the pressing of the buy button happens at Nordea. Once they bring this up to the same level as Nordnet, the investment rate of the average citizen will rise across the Nordics. It’s worth noting that the barrier to investing in one’s own online bank is much lower than transferring funds to a different provider like Nordnet. For us forum readers, this is of course completely normal, but what about the “average Joe” who heard from a colleague that investing is worthwhile. Most of the time, he doesn’t even know if Nordnet, for example, is a reliable operator or some sketchy scam site. He trusts his own bank, of course. In a way, even though I hold Nordea in very high regard as a company, not everything they do is very fresh or polished. I hope the people at Nordea also read this thread!

They’ve already had an app for that for quite a few years now. You’ve been able to do it through the mobile banking app for a long time already.

You can already do that through their online bank, which is an app in itself. They seem to be focusing more resources on it since they also discontinued their investor service. Through the app, you can see information about the stocks you own, among other things (e.g., daily data when you tilt your phone 90 degrees to landscape mode), whereas the standard browser-based online bank doesn’t show them.
