Tokmanni Group is a variety discount retailer in the Nordics. The group has stores in Finland, Sweden and Denmark under the brand names Tokmanni, Dollarstore, Big Dollar, Click Shoes and Miny. In addition, Tokmanni has online stores. Tokmanni's headquarter and logistics centres are located in Mäntsälä, Finland. Dollarstore is headquartered in Kista, Stockholm with a central warehouse in Örebro. The group own a procurement company located in Shanghai together with a Norwegian discount store chain Europris.

Tokmanni itself now had the opportunity to mention Kakkonen and gain free visibility, sometimes even vice versa. Additionally, during the peak season, it could have been indicated that, for a good Tokmanni, employees have earned their public holidays, without the commentary committing to anything. It’s good that communication is on the ball.

Tabloids haven’t yet named Kyösti as Finland’s Goldfinger, even though it would be more fitting for Endomines’ largest owner.

The media mentions Tokmanni every time Kyösti Kakkonen speaks.

Do people live in such a news blackout that they think Kakkonen is still Tokmanni’s owner or somehow involved in its operations? Good statement from Tokmanni.

Foreign investors have been selling recently

Since valuation has been a concern here, I could share some more of my thoughts. The stock is currently priced at multiples almost like a turnaround company. Therefore, the share price does not reflect a very strong sustainable earnings turnaround. A slight improvement in earnings is priced in for the next year, but the market’s belief in continued earnings growth seems minimal. Thus, if the company manages to recover its earnings, there is upside potential in the share price. However, it must be noted that such concept changes are often long-lasting, meaning there is a risk in the investment case that the turnaround may take several years. From this perspective, it is also wise to monitor how Europris’s concept change for ÖoB in Sweden progresses. This could provide an indication of how Swedish consumers generally adapt to changing concepts. Europris’s and Tokmanni’s concepts resemble each other, but especially the assortment change in Dollarstores is, to my understanding, more radical than in ÖoB’s stores. So far, ÖoB’s change has not elicited any notable positive reaction. The situation is difficult to predict, which is why share price reactions have understandably been strong recently.

Tokmanni's Q2 results were close to our expectations, and we finally saw positive development in comparable EBIT. Inflation continues to a burden on the company, especially in own costs, but we expect the sales margin to continue to recover, supporting the earnings growth outlook. We also remain cautiously positive on the acquisition of Dollarstore.
