Nokia is a global telecommunications company. The company offers solutions in IP, broadband, digital health, and cloud-based systems. The customers are found in a broad base of markets and consist of large corporate customers, authorities, and private consumers. The business is established on a global level in all regions. Nokia was founded in 1865 and the head office is located in Esbo, Finland.

Today, the “peers” seemed to take an even bigger hit than Nokia. Ciena, Lumentum, Coherent. But perhaps this correction was somewhat needed, at least for some of them. Our Nokia, too, could really use some genuinely big, good news.

Ciena has certainly come down a lot in a week, over 30 percent… this selling pressure might also be related to the upcoming mega-cap IPOs.

Of course, there is certainly collaboration regarding the requirements for the GPU and what the objectives are so that it appears as a potential and attractive option for operators. Naturally, both have their own specific roles in the AI-RAN project. I assume the news concerns the baseband part. It would also be interesting to know the situation regarding the radios. Is it still SoC (System-on-Chip) or perhaps some other reprogrammable GPU/CPU.

One would think that chip is being developed together with Nokia? Why else would they have bought a piece of Nokia.

This is very much expected. The aim is likely to develop a GPU that can reduce power consumption. At the same time, it should have enough performance for years to come to handle and run AI workloads as well.

Today, 15:44 Share American chip giant Nvidia is reportedly developing a chip for radio units within 6G networks, according to a brief commentary from ABG Sundal Collier on Tuesday. ABG assesses that it would be negative for telecom supplier Ericsson if this chip were to gain a significant position in the market. “Our base case: it is too early to worry, but it is something worth following,” ABG writes. A 10x EV/EBIT valuation seems quite cautious for a leading AI-RAN developer, especially when the market is expected to open up in '27-'28. One would also assume MXIE to be somewhat more valuable, not least on the Defense side. Nokia once again showed strategic foresight by acquiring a stake in ICEYE; as Hotard stated: “Modern defense increasingly depends on combining trusted connectivity with real-time visibility. Nokia and ICEYE bring complementary strengths.” The Americans might not fully grasp this, as it caters more to the growing demand for European defense investments: data sovereignty and situational awareness combined with critical communications infrastructure.
