Relatively yes, but absolutely the fee remains the same for 10-20 min appointments. Indeed, this increases Terveystalo’s earnings, assuming that practitioners do not switch to competitors. If more 20-min appointments are sold during the day, then an office fee also goes into Terveystalo’s till for each additional visit. Similarly, if 20 minutes is not enough to handle the patient’s matters, billing can be done according to the time used (i.e., for example, it’s legitimate to charge a 30-min price for a 25-min visit including documentation), so now that is taken away from the practitioner.

It’s worth monitoring whether occupational health nurses or doctors are laid off or furloughed. If this is the case, then there will be significant problems, because occupational health doctors refer patients for examinations, imaging, and to specialists. According to a specialist doctor at Terveystalo, operating in Helsinki, whom I interviewed, occupational health patients coming with a referral have significantly decreased in recent weeks, and many appointments have remained vacant.

Indeed- and logically, occupational health care bears part of the overall treatment responsibility, which is now with public or these private providers. This is thus on the assumption that, for example, the number of annual sick visits is constant regardless of the place of treatment. And because the capacity of public healthcare is being tested, one could imagine that the flow of paying customers increases in the private sector. Terveystalo is at the forefront of digitalization, so the future looks brighter compared to competitors, at least to my taste. Light therapy, of course, doesn’t do good for the reputation, nor is it very recommendable as a treatment otherwise

Thank you for this good correction! If public authorities were to interfere with occupational health care, they would likely mess things up even further. Better to leave a functioning system alone.
