Ensurge Micropower ASA (OSE: ENSU) today announces key leadership appointments
and a strategic restructuring to sharpen its focus on product-led execution and
accelerate the commercialization of its solid-state lithium microbattery
technology. The restructuring is expected to deliver annual cost savings of more
than USD 2 million.
Shift to a product-led operating model
Ensurge is transitioning from a historically process- and manufacturing-centric
organization to a product-led operating model that focuses resources on battery
product development, customer-driven validation, and application readiness. This
enables the company to operate with a lower cost base while improving alignment
between technology development and commercial demand.
Focused execution on solid-state battery products
The company is sharpening its focus on delivering highly differentiated
solid-state battery solutions tailored to specific customer requirements.
Ensurge's proprietary technology platform is designed to address
safety-critical, space-constrained applications across hearables, wearables,
medical devices, industrial applications, and defense. These application areas
represent a rapidly expanding global market, driven by strong structural growth
in miniaturization, safety requirements and demand for high-performance energy
storage in constrained form factors.
"We are making a necessary and strategic choice to prioritize solid-state
product development and customer-driven validation over the historical emphasis
on process and manufacturing optimization."
"This difficult decision affects talented employees, but it is necessary to
position Ensurge for commercial success", said Shauna McIntyre, CEO of Ensurge
Micropower.
Leadership appointment: Dr. Asma Sharafi named Chief Technology Officer
Effective immediately, Dr. Asma Sharafi has been appointed Chief Technology
Officer (CTO), expanding her responsibilities from her prior role as Senior Vice
President, Partnerships and Product Strategy. Dr. Sharafi brings deep experience
in solid-state battery development and translating advanced battery technologies
into application-ready solutions through close customer collaboration. As CTO,
she will lead Ensurge's product and technology roadmap, aligning battery design
and validation with customer requirements.
Dr. Arvind Kamath, EVP Technology, will report to Dr. Sharafi and continue to
focus on advancing Ensurge's core process capabilities.
Organizational changes
As part of the restructuring, Ensurge has reduced the workforce by 12 employees,
primarily in Process Engineering and Manufacturing, and has eliminated two
full-time administrative consulting roles. The new operating approach positions
Ensurge to pursue partnerships and more cost-efficient manufacturing solutions
aligned with its targeted product roadmap and application focus.
In addition, the company has discontinued its 24/7 shift operation, which
carried significant overtime and shift differential premiums.
At the same time, Ensurge is strengthening its solid-state battery product and
applications engineering capabilities through targeted new hires. An additional
four to eight hires with proven, relevant experience are planned in the near
term to accelerate customer application engagement.
