Finnair Traffic Performance in December 2025
Finnair Plc Investor News 8 January 2026 at 9:00 a.m. EET
Clear growth against a comparison period burdened by industrial action
In December, Finnair carried 982,800 passengers, which was 6.0% more than in December 2024. Passenger numbers grew significantly in North Atlantic and Asian traffic, clearly in European traffic and slightly also in Domestic traffic. In Middle Eastern traffic, the number of passengers declined.
Overall capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK), increased by 8.5%. In the comparison period, capacity was limited by industrial action. In December 2025, capacity grew significantly in North Atlantic, Asian and Domestic traffic and clearly also in European traffic. In addition to the end of the industrial action, the capacity increase was primarily driven by added frequencies to Dallas, several Asian destinations and Lapland. In Middle Eastern traffic, ASKs decreased due to the end of cooperation with Qatar Airways on flights between Stockholm, Copenhagen and Doha on 15 January 2025. Including wet lease outs, overall capacity increased by 7.7%.
Finnair's traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), increased by 6.9%. RPKs saw growth across traffic areas, except for Middle Eastern traffic.
Passenger load factor (PLF) declined by 1.1% points to 76.3%. PLF improved in Middle Eastern and European traffic but declined in Domestic, North Atlantic and Asian traffic.
Total cargo tonnes increased by 11.7%. Revenue cargo tonne kilometres increased by 12.8%.
In December, 76.8% of all Finnair flights arrived on schedule compared to 62.8% in the comparison period when on-time performance was negatively affected by difficult weather conditions and industrial action.
Traffic statistics for January 2026 will be published on Thursday 5 February 2026.

- Change %: Change compared to the corresponding period in the previous year (p = points)
- Available seat kilometres (ASK): Total number of seats available × great circle distance in kilometres
- Revenue passenger kilometres (RPK): Number of revenue passengers × great circle distance in kilometres
- Passenger load factor (PLF): Share of revenue passenger kilometres of available seat kilometres
- Available tonne kilometres: Number of tonnes of capacity for carriage of passengers, cargo and mail × great circle distance in kilometres
- Revenue tonne kilometres: Total revenue load consisting of passengers, cargo and mail × great circle distance in kilometres
The reported distance-based traffic figures do not consider longer routings caused by airspace closures but are based on the great-circle distance in accordance with the industry practice.
