Peab has been commissioned to carry out a complete renovation of Universum, a central meeting place at Campus Umeå for academia, students, business and society. The customer is Akademiska Hus and the contract is worth SEK 348 million.
The project comprises completely rebuilding about 12,000 m2 and includes more places to study and larger meeting areas. In addition, the existing entrance to Universum and Aula Nordica will be joined into a single shared entrance. The purpose of the renovation is to create a modern and sustainable environment for meetings, studies, events, services and collaboration.
Akademiska Hus has placed high demands on sustainability, climate performance and reuse in the project with the goal of achieving Miljöbyggnad Silver and Miljöbyggnad Gold within climate.

This project was preceded by a so-called phase 1 agreement where Peab was contracted to, with the customer, optimize the project with the right quality and handle risks and uncertainties. The project is now entering phase 2, which entails signing a construction contract.
Rebuilding Universum is a traditional contract in partnering that will start after the Summer and is expected to be completed in September 2028.
The project will be order registered in business area Construction in the second quarter 2026.
